Laser Gum Therapy
Anxious? Nervous? We can help.
For some people, the very idea of walking into a dental office gives them sweaty palms. Sedation is an excellent option to help get past the fear and back to dental health.
What Sedation is Right for Me?
We offer 3 different levels of sedation each with their own benefits.
- Nitrous oxide (Laughing Gas)
- Oral conscious sedation
- Intravenous (IV) Sedation
Nitrous oxide is a clear, odourless gas that one of the safest ways to help lower anxiety. When inhaled, the gas can help calm you as well as acts as a strong analgesic. You remain conscious throughout the entire procedure and you remember everything that happens. It is the only form of sedation offered that allows you to drive yourself home afterwards as its effect wears off within minutes.
Oral Conscious Sedation
Oral conscious sedation relies on the use of medications commonly used for sleeping pills. When you arrive at the office, you will be seated and given a pill to swallow or dissolve under your tongue. Within 30 minutes to an hour, you should be feeling relaxed and comfortable and your dental work can be completed. Often times you may not remember everything that happened during the appointment and some patients remember "waking up" at home.
Intravenous (IV) Sedation
We are fully licensed and trained to provide safe and predictable IV sedation to our patients. This form of sedation consists of medication being delivered through an IV resulting in fast, easily adjustable sedation to keep you comfortable throughout the entire appointment. Since the medication works quickly, we are able to adjust the dosage as necessary, depending on the amount of relaxation needed. Most patients feel like they have been "put to sleep" or "knocked out". This is the most reliable, predictable type of sedation we offer.
